Well this one’s off the cuff.
I’m writing to you directly from the Substack “post” page. No word document, no editing, no first pass review from my wife. It’s 7:36AM and this post goes out at 8.
Here we go:
Fall is my favorite season, but because of that - or the reason for that - I’m always too damn busy during it. Nature cools down and I want the world to slow down and be content. I want my book and my hot coffee and a sweater in the cool morning. I want to spend my time in nature as much as possible. It takes a lot of work to get there though.
I’m in the midst of that rush of work right now. I’m taking time off all of next week and to do that I’ve got to prepare my home, my work, and my writing all ahead of time. I know I don’t, but I feel like I let those close to me down when I rush about in the time ahead of a vacation like this.
So I wanted to jump the autumnal gun and be thankful at the start of the season rather than simply the end.
Thank you.
Thank you all of my readers and subscribers and followers. Friends and family and strangers, all. You make my writing come to life. Words written don’t do anything.
Words read, are everything.
I’ve deviated from my plan for the year, but I’m not stressing it. You’re getting a few less short stories than I thought you would, but its allowed me to focus on some other, larger projects.
My debut novel will be coming out so soon! The planned date is in February, and I am working my ass off to meet that goal and get that book out into the world and into your hands!
I cannot wait for those words to come to life as you read them.
So, again: Thank you.
Thanks for reading my stuff and supporting me. I never expected 59 folks to actively ask for my writing to show up in their inboxes every week, but damn it feels good to see. Each of you matter to me and I hope you know that.
I want to thank my business partner for allowing me to take a shitload of time off and covering for me, as well as his support for my art here. Check out his art here and here.
Most importantly: Thank you to my wife, for reading all of my stuff first (except this), all your support and feedback, and your love. You mean the world to me and I cannot believe how lucky I am to know you.
Thanks for giving that spur of the moment email a read.
